Malicious software designed to damage, steal information, or control systems.
What is Malware?
In one sentence: Any software that's designed to harm, steal, or control your system!
Imagine you download a program that says "free". You install it. But you don't know this program is encrypting your files and demanding ransom, or stealing your passwords, or made your computer part of a botnet! These are all malware.
Types of Malware:
Virus: Attaches to other files and spreads.
Worm: Self-replicating, doesn't need files, spreads through network.
Trojan: Pretends to be useful program. But its inside is malicious.
Ransomware: Locks your files, demands ransom.
Spyware: Secretly monitors your activities.
Adware: Shows annoying advertisements.
Keylogger: Records everything you type (passwords!).
Botnet: Makes your computer part of a network for DDoS attacks.
Why is it important for security?
Because malware can steal all your data, lock your files, shut down your computer, or use it to attack others.
